More than 2,400 killed in Iraq in June
(UN) Violence has claimed the lives of 2,417 Iraqis in June, making it the deadliest month so far this year,
Acts of violence and terrorism” killed at least 2,417 Iraqis and wounded 2,287 more in June. Of those killed, 1,531 were civilians. The statement said Baghdad province was the worst affected, with 1,090 civilians wounded and killed
The figures issued by the U.N. mission to Iraq put last month’s civilian death toll at 1,531, with 886 security forces killed. UNAMI added that 2,287 Iraqis, including 1,763 civilians, were wounded. Read more
January and June, the two deadliest month so far
1013 people were killed and 2024 people were wounded in Iraq in January.
The new figures, compiled by the ministries of health, interior and defence, showed that 1013 people were killed in January, including 795 civilians, 122 soldiers and 96 policemen.
Another 2024 people were wounded – 1633 civilians, 238 soldiers and 153 policemen. Read more
